This is a joint meeting with the Philosophy of Science Association. Your registration fee allows you to attend the PSA sessions. Click here for the 2008 PSA preliminary program.
Annual Meeting Registration
To register for the annual meeting click here. Note that early registration closes on 1 October, after which regular registration rates apply.
Early registration rates: $100.oo (HSS member); $50.00 (HSS student member); $125 (non-member); $70 (student non-member/low income or retired)
Regular registration rates (after 1 October): $120.oo (HSS member); $70.00 (HSS student member); $145 (non-member); $90 (student non-member/low income or retired)

Tour to Muddy Creek
Friday, 1-5 p.m. Discover the early oil and gas industry around Pittsburgh and visit the fields between Pittsburgh and Muddy Creek (guided by geologist Kathy Flaherty). DVDs on the early oil industry in Pennsylvania will be shown during the bus ride (including "Born in Freedom: The Story of Colonel Drake," made in 1954 and starring Vincent Price as Colonel Drake.) If we do not receive sufficient bookings by the close of business on 14 October, HSS-supplied transportation will be cancelled and your $15 payment refunded.
Tour of the Hunt Institute
Friday, 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The Hunt Institute specializes in the history of botany and all aspects of plant science. The institute acquires and maintains authoritative collections of books, plant images, manuscripts, portraits and data files. During the field trip curators will display and discuss items from their historical collections for conference attendees. Also included is a gallery exhibit on renowned botanical artist Pancrace Bessa (1772-1835). If we do not receive sufficient bookings by the close of business on 14 October, HSS-supplied transportation will be cancelled and your $10 payment refunded.

Hotel Information
The 2008 HSS conference will be held 6-9 November at the Omni William Penn hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. The hotel address is 530 William Penn Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 (or call 1-800-843-6664 or 412-281-7100).

A limited number of rooms have been set aside for graduate students which provide a $40 discount on the full HSS price. One these rooms are booked, graduate students must pay full price. To register as a graduate student click here. Note that graduate students must book by 6 October to receive the discounted rate.
No corporate code is required to register as an HSS/PSA conference attendee. Problems with clicking on the dates have been reported with Safari browsers. Until the hotel fixes this problem, we recommend using another browser such as Firefox.
Important: We have been informed that a major football game will be played at Pittsburgh during the conference period. This will significantly reduce the number of hotel rooms available in the city. Book early!
